Eastbourne homes get the green light
Posted: 26/05/2008
A row of state-of-the-art eco-friendly houses will be built in Eastbourne. Town planners approved the five family homes going on the site of existing dilapidated garage blocks at the rear of homes in Roselands Avenue. The 22 garages will be demolished to make way for the five two-storey three-bedroom houses. One will be detached and there will be two pairs of semi-detached homes with five car parking spaces.
The five Scandinavian timber style homes have a distinctive design including curved sedum roofs and small private gardens. Architect Liam Russell said the development was ambitious and exceptional, and that every effort had been made to make sure it left a positive lasting legacy.
He added, "The proposal will contribute to the environment with a green sedum roof and a host of other sustainable benefits such as super-insulation, solar energy collectors and gardens and the building will be insulated to a higher level than current building regulations require."
Members of Eastbourne Borough Council's planning committee gave the green light to the plans at its meeting on Tuesday night.
Councillors said they were 'excited' by the scheme which they likened to a Grand Designs home building project.
