Renewables Grants For Householders
Posted: 03/05/2006
The Governments Low Carbon Buildings Programme is progressing. Applications can now be made for grants to help U.K. householders and small groups with the cost of installing microgeneration technologies. Community organisations, schools, the public sector and businesses can so far only get information.. The programme is being managed by EST with technical support from BRE and the Carbon Trust.
The Programme has been allocated £30m funding for the next three years. In March 2006's budget statement, it was announced that there would be a further £50 million for the programme, however further confirmation is awaited. Two streams of grants are available: stream one for smaller projects for home owners, community groups and small to medium enterprises; and stream two for larger projects, including larger businesses, community organisations and the public sector.
There are a number of technologies that the programme will cover, including solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, small hydro, solar thermal hot water, heat pumps, bio-energy, renewable CHP, fuel cells and Micro CHP. A number of energy efficiency measures must be undertaken to be eligible for a grant - at least 270mm loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, energy efficient light bulbs, and basic heating controls.
To get more information on any of these technologies, plus case studies and a general idea of the likely costs, or to download an application form and guidance notes, go to www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk. There is also a freephone telephone number 0800 915 7722.
