EVENT - Genesis Project Conference
Posted: 25/03/2005
The Road to Genesis - Turning Vision Into Reality - Friday 20th May, Somerset Centre for Enterprise, Somerset College of Arts and Technology, Wellington Road, Taunton. This conference about the Genesis project, will provide an opportunity to meet the designers and constructors of a building which pushes the boundaries of sustainable design. The regional sustainable construction resource centre is scheduled to open in February 2006.
The first half of the conference will focus on the development of the
project from inception through to the selected design concept from
Architype. Delegates will discover how and why the idea for a regional
centre based at Somerset College evolved, how it was funded and who the key regional partners are.
In the second half, after a tour of the Genesis site, delegates will learn how decisions, which have changed elements of the design, were made in an attempt to find a balance between the key project components of sustainable design, educational potential, buildability and budget.
Delegates will then be treated to a rare insight into some of the difficulties, and their solutions, encountered as mainstream contractors prepared to incorporate straw and earth buildings into a project for the first time.
A full programme is available upon request: For more information or to book a place call Sam McIntyre at The Somerset Centre for Enterprise on 01823 366743 or email enterprise@somerset.ac.uk.
