UKGBC to officially launch at Ecobuild
Posted: 05/02/2007
The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) will be officially launched at Ecobuild on the 27th February 2007. The UKGBC aims to be a unique voice for the built environment community, bringing together companies and organisations who work on the demand and supply side including building funders, developers, agents, designers, contractors and product manufacturers.
The UKGBC will be established as a new not-for-profit company. The UKGBC’s 20 Founding Members have pledged to provide £30,000 each over the first two years. The start-up funding of £600,000 will enable the UKGBC to become fully established. To date over £1 million has been pledged by UKGBC Founding Members to support the development of the Council and build the membership base.
Over twenty major commercial organisations attended the Inaugural Meeting of the UKGBC in London in October last year. The Founding Members agreed that the role and function of the UKGBC would extend beyond reducing the environmental impact of buildings, to include the broader issues associated with delivering a sustainable built environment. They pledged to 'dramatically improve the built environment'. 'Develop and enhance the UK’s world class position in sustainable building design', and 'transform the market for ‘sustainable’ products'.
