Jackson Building Services A Winner Again

Posted: 15/06/2005

Jackson Building Services has been recognised for the second year in succession with a prestigious award from the Suffolk Association of Architects. The contractor scooped the 2005 New Building Craftsmanship Award for its sustainable head office development for The Havebury Housing Association in Bury St Edmunds. In 2004 the company took home the honours for the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust's new ambulance station in Newmarket.

The award, which is judged by a panel of the county's leading architects, recognises the very best in project management and delivery, and is only awarded to those organisations that can demonstrate a clear commitment to quality and attention to detail. Jackson Building Services completed the construction of the £2.2 million new headquarters for Havebury Housing Association in 2004 and the building ranks as one of Suffolk's most sustainable and environmentally sound new developments.

Designed from the outset to minimise its impact on the environment, the award winning building utilises leading-edge technology to reduce the amount of energy it uses. A night time cooling system allows cool night air to enter the building via high-level windows. This air helps to cool the entire structure providing natural air conditioning during working hours occupation. Hi-tech sensors constantly monitor the building and automatically open and close the windows, with solar shades adjusting to maintain a constant internal temperature.

Maximising natural daylight and reducing the need for artificial lighting has enabled Havebury Housing's headquarters to be designated a true low carbon building. Light tubes in the roof and UV resistant fritted glass in the two-storey atrium bring daylight into the building, with low energy lamps used to illuminate the headquarters in the evenings.

Michael Manning, Construction Director for Jackson Building Services, commented: "This award pays testimony to the client's vision and project team's hard work delivering such a unique building in Suffolk, and perfectly highlights the company's expertise and built in quality culture. Exceeding clients expectations is key to the Jackson Building Services ethos and I am delighted that the company has been recognised for the quality of its craftsmanship for the second year running."
